Barclay & Keith's Notable Sires (Chapter 18)
Out of some 125,000 possible bulls included in the Aberdeen-Angus Society’s herd books up until their
time of writing, Barclay and Keith selected just 34 animals for their chapter on Notable Sires. Their criterion
for an animal’s inclusion was its ‘influence on the development of the breed’. Of these 34 animals, all but
one appear in Broken Arrow Kaptain Midnight's extended pedigree.
The following is Barclay and Keith's list of notable Aberdeen-Angus sires with links to copies of their
respective pedigrees and the number of times they appear in Midnight's pedigree as at 27 January 2008.
The seven-generation pedigrees are coloured to indicate the common ancestors within their breeding. The
terms #unknown Sire and #unknown dam are used in the pedigrees to indicate animals not mentioned in
the Herd Book. Other gaps indicate the need for further research on our part.
